Spectroscopy

Build your own spectrometer and explore the light sources of everyday life and more

Our extension module turns our USB spectrometer into a complete spectroscopy setup for transmission and photoluminescence measurements. It is easy to attach and has a holder for standard cuvettes (46 mm x 12.5 mm x 12.5 mm). Using the integrated, interchangeable light sources such as white light and UV LEDs, the transmission or absorption properties of various substances can be analyzed and thus conclusions drawn about their physical properties. The same applies to photoluminescence measurements, in which, for example, materials such as dye molecules from highlighters are excited to a higher electronic state by high-energy photons. By relaxing across different electronic states, the emitted photons are red-shifted or lower energy and characteristic of the dye molecule. Thus, the spectrometer can be used to perform initial experiments in the field of quantum mechanics in a comparatively straightforward manner. Whether transmission, absorption or photoluminescence spectroscopy, with our software SpecControl you are prepared for any challenge.

Component overview

Spectroscopy add-on for USB spectrometer

Transmission and photoluminescence measurements can be carried out with the add-on:

  • __SpectroscopyAddOn_Mainbody.stl_ (spectroscopy add-on)_
  • __SpectroscopyAddOn_Cuvettecover.stl_ (cover for the spectroscopy attachment to prevent ambient light from penetrating)_
  • __SpectroscopyAddOn_Lampcover.stl_ (cap for the LED sockets if only one lamp is connected)
  • __LEDHousing5mm_Tube.stl.stl_ (suitable housing for 5mm LEDs. There is also space for a series resistor)
  • __LEDHousing5mm_EndCap.stl_(end cap for the LED housing)
